Dr. Brian Britton

Kitty, I just wanted to tell you about an amazing experience I had at Mass the other day. You were cantoring for the noon Mass, and I was serving as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. After singing “One Bread, One Body,” you began singing “In the Breaking of the Bread.” I was in the process of handing out the Body of the Lord, but listening to the words as you sang them. I must admit, in the past you have sung this song, and in my preoccupation with other things, the words have just gone right over my head. But Easter was different. I had finished handing out the Body of the Lord and was standing there holding my bowl of Hosts close to my heart as I always do, when you began singing the 4th verse, and when you got to the words, “In the breaking of the bread, we saw him! Suddenly our eyes were opened! There within our midst was Jesus, and we knew he was alive! In the breaking of the bread, he is here with us again, and we know he is alive!” Well, at that moment I was staring into the hosts and had the most emotional moment I have had in a long time, because my eyes were opened, and I recognized the Lord in a way that I had not before…in the breaking of the bread. I had a hard time fighting back the tears! I want to thank you for helping me to have my own personal “Road to Emmaus” experience. May the peace of the Risen Lord be with you always! Brian Britton
